New Habits

Posted on September 20, 2016 in General News

I've had this blog for the past 13 years in some form or another. Its lived under a few different domains (crackmac.com, uphonic.com, kevinduane.com) and it's fun to look back at some of the old and out of date posts like the very first in 2003 on setting up an OSX server from scratch. I haven't had much time the past 5 years since joining the Disney Systems Engineering group and raising a young family but it's time to start some new habits.

  1. Write something... anything at least once a week. It doesn't have to be a tome of great distinction; just some tidbit of useful information or a unique observation.
  2. Build a mobile/web application by the end of the year. I'm not talking about some 'Hello world' crap but a real, functional (although probably MVP) application that might be useful to someone. I have some ideas... {{cue evil laugh}}
  3. Cut the noise, and find the signal. Give me less Facebook and Twitter and Snapchat and Reddit and MLB.com and cnn.com and more quiet and focus on important stuff... there still is other stuff right? I know what I'm looking for is right in front of me but I just need to see it.
  4. Health and family... blah blah blah... let me see how I do with just three.

I hope to share some interesting stuff with you in the next few weeks. I've been playing around with some Blockchain technology; I'm always knee deep in Docker and Kubernetes; PAAS technology like Deis, and mobile development frameworks like Ionic.

Let me know if there is anything specific you'd like to hear about and I'll do my best. Here's to new habits.
