Exploring Audio Entertainment with Amazon Echo Devices

Exploring Audio Entertainment with Amazon Echo Devices

This is part three of my series on discovering all the different uses for your Amazon’s Echo devices. (Part 1, Part 2)

Today we are talking about Amazon Echo’s music and audio capabilities. Streaming your favorite music; listening to live, local radio station or any number of stations from around the world; podcats, audiobooks, news, weather, all for the asking.

I have a pretty large collection of music. Boxes of vynl records and cassettes from the 1980s and 90s, binders with 100s of CDs from the 90s and 2000s. Then when the first iPods came on the market in 20?? I converted most of my CD collection into digital files and could put (almost) all my music in my hip pocket. Now, since the 2010s and forward I’ve been almost exclusively been using music services like Apple music, Amazon Prime Music and Spotify to listen and discover music. That is quite an evolution in just 30 years.

The great thing about music streaming serviecs is you open the app on your phone, pop in your ear buds and you have the entire musical catalogs of almost every artist since the start of recording of poular music. You also have endless hours of podcasts and audiobooks, many of which cost you nothing. Something that has not been so convenient with streaming services is playing that music to the entire room. You need a seperate connected speaker for your phone or computer and then you can’t use your phone easily… you get the idea.

Your Echo device is perfect for this task. Most streaming services have Alexa Skill that you securely link to your account and it will allow you to use voice commands (or the actuall app) to control what you play, pause, skip and control volume.
